Benidorm Tourist Information
Benidorm is one of Spain’s most popular tourist resorts, located on the eastern (Mediterranean) coast between Valencia and Alicante, in the province of Valencia within the Costa Blanca region.
Benidorm is only a two-hour flight from most major European capitals, such as London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan, and Zurich. The nearest airport is Alicante (El Altet) International Airport, which is connected by a motorway and located 60 km away. The airport offers regular flights throughout the year.
The resort offers an incredible selection of entertainment and excitement for all ages. Visitors can enjoy four of Europe’s biggest theme parks, a casino, a top-flight international variety show, numerous cabaret bars and discos, and hotels with excellent live acts. Water sports opportunities abound, and the town also features peaceful parks, exhilarating walks along the promenade, and afternoon tea dancing, ensuring there is something for everyone.
Benidorm’s two major beaches, Poniente and Levante, are long stretches of soft, golden sand. Due to their southerly orientation, these beaches are naturally kept clean and consistently receive the prestigious European Blue Flag awards for quality services and water.
The weather in Benidorm is remarkably mild. In summer, the average sea temperature is 24ºC, and the air temperature averages 26ºC. While winter is cooler, the climate remains mild and sunny. Summer months are generally popular with younger tourists, spring and autumn attract a broad range of visitors, and while winter is favored by older tourists, it is increasingly becoming a popular short-break destination for others as well.
Benidorm’s beaches are rightly celebrated, and the ongoing success of the resort owes much to these fabulous golden crescents. Extending luxuriously for six kilometers from Levante Beach in the east to Poniente Beach in the west, they consistently maintain high standards with blue flag status for bathing quality, lifeguard patrols ensuring safety, a wide range of water sports, and a commendable commitment to cleanliness. These beaches are truly among the finest in Europe.
Benidorm is split into four areas: The Old Town, Levante, Poniente, and Rincon de Loix.
Benidorm’s Old Town is a charming labyrinth of cobblestone streets and inviting establishments for dining and shopping. Situated on the promontory between the two main beaches, it originated as a fishing village and has evolved into the bustling tourist hub that defines modern Benidorm. The Old Town retains its character with quaint narrow lanes and alleys, some too narrow for tourist coaches to navigate. Amidst the towering skyscrapers to the east and west, the area features a distinctive blue-domed church and white houses, offering a serene contrast.
The Church of San Jaime, overlooking the town, provides a tranquil retreat for both locals and visitors seeking solace or companionship.
For those who enjoy vibrant holiday energy, the Levante area of Benidorm is ideal. By day, visitors can indulge in beach activities, hotel amenities, and theme park adventures. By night, it transforms into the highest concentration of entertainment and clubbing venues in Europe. Playa Levante, rated as one of Europe’s best beaches, stretches luxuriously for over two kilometers of soft sand, bordered by the lively Rincon de Loix area.
Rincon de Loix seamlessly merges with the Levante area, attracting many British tourists with a mix of new 4-star hotels, upscale apartments, and older, more basic accommodations.
Walking west from Benidorm’s Old Town, Poniente Beach unfolds. This expansive stretch of golden sand is complemented by a newly constructed promenade and a slow-moving one-way traffic system. Cafes, bars, and shops that were once dormant have reopened, revitalizing the area. The surrounding apartments and hotels have also benefited from this rejuvenation, creating a vibrant atmosphere along the entire coastline.
